Hungarian Princes, Kings and Rulers

Ungarn var indtil år 1000 styret af fyrster med lavere titler end konge. Den første konge var Stephen, der havde styret som hertug fra 997. Stephen var af magyarslægten Arpad, der var et nomadefolk fra stepperne mellem Don og Donau. De var kaldt til hjælp af kong Arnulf af Kärnten fra omkring 890. Slægtens første fyrster var Akmus † 896c. og sønnen Arpad, 896-907, dennes søn Zsolt, 907-947, dennes søn Taksony, 947-972 og dennes søn Geza, 972-997, der er Stephans far. Slægten Arpad forblev ungarnske fyrster og konger til 1301.
