Regenter og slægtsforhold for Mecklenburg



Indledning

Oprindeligt var Mecklenburgområdet befolket af keltiske stammer, men fra omkring år 100 f.Kr. var landet beboet af germanske stammer. Se også om goter og folkevandringen.

Fra 600-tallet og frem til omkring 1200 var de herskende stammer obotriterne (der på tysk og andre steder kaldes for Abodriter), chizzinierne, circipanierne og længst mod øst lyutichierne. I området var der også folk af stammer kendt under navnet venderne.

Landet blev i 1100-tallet betragtet som vildt hedningeland og blev missionsmark for de relativt nye kristne stammer i det vestlige Tyskland. Kejser Lothar III indsatte i 1125 Knud Lavard som fyrste over obotriterne i Mecklenburg, men Knud døde allerede 07/01 1131.

Fyrst Adolf I von Schauenburg grundlagde Lübeck i 1143 eller 1144, men byen blev lagt øde af obotritfyrsten Niklot i 1147, så det blev Henrik Løve, der genopførte bosættelsen i 1159. I tiden mellem 1144 og 1159 havde ærkebiskoppen i Bremen genoprettet de tidligere grundlagte stifter i Oldenburg, Ratzeburg og Mecklenburg. Selve spørgsmålet om indsættelsesretten af biskopperne blev en kamp mellem ærkebiskoppen og Henrik Løve, og spørgsmålet måtte bilægges ved kejserens mellemkomst i 1154. På et tidspunkt herefter blev biskopsædet i Oldenburg ført til Lübeck og Mecklenburgs overført til Schwerin. Mecklenburg var på det tidspunkt en lille bosættelse lidt inden for Wismars position.

Henrik Løve besejrede i en kampagne fra 1157 endeligt i 1160 obotriterne og kristnede landet og bragte det varigt ind under tysk herredømme. Henrik Løve fik landområdet i forlening og indsatte greverne Gunzelin eller Guncelin von Hagen i Schwerin og Heinrich von Schooten i Mecklenburg. I 1203 - 1204 erhvervede Gunzelin områderne Wittenburg og Boizenburg fra Ratzeburglenet. Gunzelin-linjerne uddøde i 1344 og 1357.

Med en elskerinde, Ida af Bileskastel, fik Henrik Løve datteren Mechtilde = Matilda, der giftede sig med Henrik Borwin af Venden, † 1228, der grundlagde det Mecklenburgske dynasti.

Henrik Løve installerede i 1167 obotritfyrsten Niklots søn, Pribislav (M002), med forlening af området, efter denne havde ladet sig kristne.

Fra 1214 til 1227, indtil slaget ved Bornhöved 22/07 1227, havde danske konger området i len af den tyske kejser. Den danske grænse blev da trukket tilbage til Ejderen.

Niklots børnebørn delte i 1229 eller 1234 Mecklenburgområdet mellem sig i fire afdelinger, der fik navnene I 1292, [SAL] siger 1304, havde Mecklenburgslægten ved Henrik II Løve erhvervet området Stargard som len fra Brandenburg og i 1358 grevskabet Schwerin. Rostocklinjen uddøde i 1314 og Parchimlinjen uddøde i 1315. Linjen Werle-Güstrow delte sig i 1316 til 1337 i flere dele: Güstrow, Goldberg og Waren, men alle var uddøde i 1436, og alle områderne kom igen sammen under Mecklenburg.

Området Mecklenburg, der i hele historien var det fortsættende område, blev af kejseren udnævnt til hertugdømme fra 08/07 1348, og fra det tidspunkt kaldte adskillige af fyrsteslægtens medlemmer sig for hertuger uanset, hvor lidt land de disponerede over. Fra 1348 til 1471 er der tale om to hovedområder Mecklenburg-Schwerin og Mecklenburg-Stargard.

I 1555 skete en deling af Mecklenburg mellem Johann Albrecht I (H0016), der fik Güstrow-området, og broderen Ulrich, der fik Schwerinområdet. Denne opdeling varede med den mindre ændring omtalt i næste afsnit til 1695.

1555-opdelingen varede til 1610, hvorefter Mecklenburg var samlet til 1621, hvor der igen deltes, så nu Johan Albrecht II (H20) fik Güstrow-delen, mens broderen Adolph Frederik I (H021) fik Schwerin. Ved denne deling forblev dog rigets landdag samlet og afholdtes vekselvis i Sternberg og Malchin.

Güstrow-Grabowlinjen uddøde i 1695, og landet blev samlet under hertug Friedrich Wilhelm af Schwerin (K002), hvilket fik hans onkel Adolf Friedrich II af Strelitz-linjen (S001) til at protestere. Striden blev bilagt ved et forlig i Hamburg, Hambuerger Vergleich, den 08/03 1701, hvor Mecklenburg igen blev delt i Mecklenburg-Schwerin og en ny linje Mecklenburg-Strelitz, der blev den underordnede del, hvor Schwerinlinjen fik langt større landområder og fik retten til at styre landdagene.

Under trediveårskrigen var både den tyske kejsers styrker, danskerne og svenskerne aktive i området, der ved fredsslutningen i 1648 måtte acceptere en svensk besættelse af Wismar med amterne Poel og Neukloster — en besættelse der varede til 1803, hvor områderne blev pantsat i 100 år til Mecklenburg, men svensk krav om tilbagelevering 1903 blev frafaldet. Ved 1648-freden fik Mecklenburghertugerne de ophævede bispedømmer Schwerins og Ratzeburgs landområder tilkendt.

Ved Wienerfreden i 1815 blev begge Mecklenburgerdelene ærkehertugdømmer, og rigerne bevarede deres særegne gammeldags styreform, der kun langsomt og i forhold til resten af Europa meget sent blev ændret, så man kan sige, at det enevældige styre på mange samfundsområder fortsatte op til 1918, hvor fyrstedømmet blev afløst af en tilslutning til rigsfællesskabet.

Fra 1918 til 1933 var Mecklenburg en fristat i Weimarrepublikken, hvorefter området var del af det nazistiske Tyskland. Efter WW2 blev staten Mecklenburg-Vorpommern dannet i DDR, men fra 1947 kun under navnet Mecklenburg. Efter sammenlægningen af de to tyske dele i 1990 er navnet Mecklenburg-Vorpommern genindført.



Dynastiets opdeling
Før jeg lister fyrsteslægternes medlemmer, vil jeg vise en liste over "regenter" for de grene, som dynastiet fik gennem årene.

Jeg betragter den fortsættende linje som værende Mecklenburg, senere Mecklenburg-Schwerin.
Hovedlinjen fik sidelinjer i 1227 til Werle, Rostock og Parchim.

Parchim-linjen uddøde 1315 og dets område gik retur til de øvrige områder.
Rostock-linjen uddøde 1323 og dets land gik også retur til Mecklenburg-linjen.

Werlelinjen blev opdelt i 1316 i Werle-Güstrow, Werle-Goldberg og Werle-Waren, og disse tre underlinjer var alle uddøde igen 1436, og områderne returneret til Mecklenburg.

Mecklenburg-linjen blev delt i 1329, hvor en sidegren fik Stargard-området. Det varede til 1471, så gik området igen til Mecklenburg.

Mecklenburg-hovedlinje blev delt i 1503 / 1555 i Mecklenburg og Mecklenburg-Güstrow-linjen, der uddøde i 1695, hvor Mecklenburghertugen inddrog området.
Det fik han ikke lov at beholde, og i 1701 deltes riget i Mecklenburg og Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
De to linjer eksisterede til fyrstedømmets ophævelse i 1918.
